 Jones, Charles

Charles W. Jones was born on May 4, 1935 in Troy, Alabama to the loving union of Jessie and Louise (nee Kendricks) Jones.  Charles received his early education in Alabama and, as a young man, moved to Cleveland, Ohio in search of better employment opportunities.

If you knew Charles at all, you knew a few things to be true.  He was most always good for a laugh!  He loved fishing and gardening and he loved staying active, including right up through some of the last weeks of his illness.  What you may or may not have known was that he was a hard-working man who retired from Bailey Controls after thirty-three years of service.  He was a devoted family man having raised both his sons to adulthood and leaving behind his devoted wife, Pearl, after a near fifty-five year relationship.  Charles was also a spiritual man who was a part of the Cleveland church community for over thirty years, with the last several years spent as a member at Lee Memorial AME Church.

Though no man should expect to enter into The Father’s Kingdom with a claim of perfection, we do humbly expect Brother Charles to be greeted at the gate with a deserving “well done, my son”, when he arrives.

On Tuesday December 18, 2007, Charles went home to be with the Lord.  He is preceded in death by his parents as well as by siblings Letha Rogers, Addie Floroy, Lillie Mae Jones and Wllie D. Jones.

Those left to mourn and to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Pearl;  children Douglas (Sandra) Shy, Margaret Jones-Brown and Melvin Jones;  sisters Louise Townsend and Carrie Hannah;  brothers Midis Jones and Isiah (Odessa) Jones;  grandchildren Andra Brabson, Robin Brabson, Jauan Jones, Andrea Jones and Travis Mobley;  great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and friends.

While he will be missed by, his family and friends, we know him to live on in our hearts and in our actual lives on a day-to-day basis.  With Douglas and Melvin carrying on his ‘hard-working’ philosophy and his love for fishing; Melvin, his passion for gardening; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, how could he not live on?

We love you ‘Pops’.  We love you ‘Jonesy’.  We love you ‘Chas’.  We love you ‘Charlie’.  We love you, ‘Bruh Jones’.  We love you, Charles!
