Her bedroom was the living room. You could walk in and sit on the
bed, floor, and depending on the day she might let you sit in her
chair. That was the room we laughed, cried, or watched a movie.
There was no time limit, you could stay as long as you liked. Her
home was your home. Julia was often found visiting the shut-ins at
shelters to feed the homeless. Julia had a pearl white smile that would
brighten your day no matter what the occasion. Julia always found
the good in people. Her smile was inside and out. Julia found joy in
watching her children, grandchildren, and "TAZ" (her cat) enjoy
life. Don't think she's missing out on anything because she's gone.
She will always be in our heart. Julia loved to make trips to St Louis to
visit her sisters, to laugh, kick it, and go to cook outs. She
cherished spending time with her family and friends .If you wanted
promptness, that was not Julia you had to tell her the function
started a half hour earlier. In order for her to be on time. No one
was ever mad. Just hoping she brought one of her famous "SWEET
POTATOE PIES". Her loving memory will forever live on
in our hearts, to be cherished by her loving children Latoya( Steve

Susan Marie
Phillips was born on December 28, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio to the
union of James and Novella Phillips. Susan was the only girl of
five children and was affectionately called Susie by many. She
received her early education from the Cleveland Public School System
and accepted Christ at an early age. In the mid 1960’s,
Susan met Ronald Howard and to their union two sons were born -
Lionell and Derrick. Susan made great sacrifices as a single parent
to send her sons to catholic school, which enabled them to succeed
in life. She truly valued education so much that later in her life
Susan earned her GED and continued her quest for knowledge by
attending college for one year. Susan was a hard worker and was
employed at Slyman’s Restaurant for many years. Every so often,
Lionell and Derrick would go there to get a “good ole” corned beef
sandwich. Susan was faced
with a lot of health and life challenges and regardless to what the
situation was she would continue to move forward. One of her life
challenges was alcoholism, which she had eight years of sobriety.
She was committed to maintaining her sobriety and assisting others
through working as a Help Line Operator for Alcoholics Anonymous
since 2000. She also worked for the Board of Elections since 2003
as a Poll Worker during the election seasons. Susie exhibited the
spirit of a warrior who would fight with all their might to not be
conquered nor surrender. Susan was such an independent woman that
even through her illness she was her mother’s caregiver. Susie had
a code of conduct that she lived by and required of others and that
was to be on time! If you were not on time she would let you know
in such a way that you would have to question if she was serious or
joking. Over the years
Susan and her sons attended St. Catherine’s Church, Epiphany
Catholic Church and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. They enjoyed
hearing the word of God and the respected Messenger, Rev. Daniel
Begin (Father Dan). Over the years, Susan, Lionell, Derrick and
Father Dan became good friends. Father Dan was and still is a great
support to their family. Susan’s survivor skills, forthright
personality and get the job done philosophy has contributed to her
sons’ quest for knowledge, timeliness and loyalty. On October 17, 2007
Susan was called home to be with the Lord. Those who have preceded
her in death include her father as well as two brothers Joseph
