Toby Angelina Ratchford-Hill Ray (January 31, 1976 - June 13, 2005)

Toby Angelina Ratchford Hill Ray began her journey home on January 31, 1976.  She arrived there peacefully on June 13, 2005.  Toby was the second child born to Deborah Ann Stoner and the only child born to Kenneth Monroe Ratchford, who preceded her in passing.  She accepted the Creator at an early age, was baptized at Saint James Lutheran Church by Pastor Robert Gahagan.  Along her journey home, she had many conversations with the creator and grew into a very spiritual being.  Toby attended private schools in the Cleveland area and was an alumnus of the Villa Angela-Saint Joe's High School.  Toby also had the love for animals and the desire to rescue any that were wounded, helpless, or stray.  If she saw a dog with three legs or a cat with one eye, Toby would try to save it.  Thus, Toby continued her education in college where she had the desire to obtain a veterinarian degree.  She was a poet known under the pen name "Sapphyre Bleuss" and has a collection of poems, which were published in her book, Chocolate Love for the Soul.   She also loved to travel.  All who truly knew and loved Toby will miss her wittiness.  Her friends will also miss her;  she was the shoulder they could always lean on.  Toby was employed by the City of Cleveland, Division of Police, as a private secretary in the 5th District Detective Bureau.  Toby developed a very special bond with the members of the bureau.  Often times being the only female among a group of males, Toby was considered the daughter of the group.  She loved them as much as they loved her.  In her plans to relocate, she just wanted to pack them up and take each one with her.  Toby was joined in holy matrimony to Jomo Hill-Ray on February 14, 2005.  Out of this union Brooklynn Asha was born.  She also has a 10 year-old son, Talique whom she loves dearly.  Talique is her "best guy" and Toby is Talique's "best girl".  Toby had a sister/mother relationship with her big sister, Nichole.  From day one, Nichole looked out for Toby as if she were her own child.  Nichole had a way of getting Toby to fess up whenever she'd done something wrong as a child.  Also she shared a special bond with her brother Jamel.  She was the one in the family he would call upon when he needed a shoulder to lean on.  Even though not her birth father, she was an image of her dad, Michael Richardson in many ways.  Daughter and dad thought and acted similar in so many instances.  He felt no one was good enough for his "baby girl".  Toby considered her mother her best friend and the strongest person she knew.  She wanted to emulate her.  As Toby blossomed into a young woman, that relationship and bond became even closer.  They spent many Monday's shopping together.  Just like her sister, they all loved to get a bargain.  Toby truly loved her family and was especially concerned about her children, always making sure they received the best.  She will be greeted home by her father Kenneth, great-grandmother Cravelia, cousin Toni and many others she loved.  She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Jomo who she loved dearly; loving son Talique, her wise soul mate;  beautiful daughter Brooklynn, every moment spent together was filled with love;  devoted parents Deborah and Michael, who she held in high esteem; loving grandmother Barbara whose safety she worried about;  nurturing sister Nichole (Brian) of Atlanta, Georgia, who she would go through fire for; b6rother Jamel, loved just as you are;  close aunts: Cordelia, Linda, Nadine, and Wanda;  God sister Tanya;  seven nieces: Alexandria, Anjallah, Andrayah, Angelicah, Aaliishah, Alysa and Makayla;  two nephews:  Cordero and Treize;  close cousins, a host of other relatives and treasured friends.

James Raymond Reid, III (May 16, 1980 - November 17, 2005)

James Raymond Reid III was born May 16, 1980 in Newport, RI to parents James and Laurel Reid.  "Ray", as he was affectionately called, was a precocious child - following in his grandfather's footsteps (John Coriander (Bernadette) - both preceded him in death) to be a carpenter.  He had a great love for building things and figuring out how things worked.  He loved animals of all sorts and had great fondness for dogs.  His sister, Angela recalls that he was always a "dreamer".  Forever making plans to be something and do something great.  His older brother Renaldo enjoyed having a little brother around.  They had many days of mayhem doing the things that little boys enjoy doing.  Shortly after turning 3, along came little brother Jayson.  The one he would become closet to.  He finally was no longer the youngest, and although there was the closeness in their ages, he soon began to fill the role of Jayson's older brother.  The two were inseparable learning about many aspects of life together.  After several yearly visits and as difficult as it was, at the age of 13, Ray moved to Cleveland to live with his dad and stepmother Diana.  The transition was difficult, as he grew to miss his RI family, particularly his closest cousin Chantelle and his first love, Sherry.  Ray inevitably returned to RI.  Once back, he helped to lead Portsmouth High School to victory on the school's football team.  He adored the sport of football and had helped to become a professional.  He helped to organize "little league" teams in his neighborhood.  As Ray grew older, he desired to once again try living in Cleveland.  Returning to Cleveland, he joined the Glenville A's football team and was a starter as a tight end.  Many Sunday afternoons were spent watching Ray push toward his dream of playing professional football.  Football however was one of many dreams.  He joined his dad's basketball summer league team and helped his team go on to victory.  At the age of 14, Ray desired to become a Christian and talked with his stepmother about his salvation.  He accepted Christ into his heart.  He considered himself a member of The Morning Star Baptist Church, but never officially joined.  Ray was very well liked and very well known.  He was very charismatic and many wanted his friendship.  His best friend Zachary, often accompanied him on family outings and events.  He and Zachary dreamed of becoming great rap artists and spent long hours writing and recording their songs, a legacy left behind from his late grandfather James Reid Sr. who was a R&B recording artist.  Ray went on to form the Rap group Diversified Minds which sang around the city in various talent shows and festivals.  His dream of becoming a successful rap star was diminished by life and life's choices, but he never stopped writing his thoughts and creating music.  Ray faced his biggest challenge yet when he was blessed with his son James IV and his daughter Jamyah.  They were truly the loves of his life.  His desire to give them more sometimes clouded his reasoning, but there was nothing unattainable for them.  He wanted very much to be a part in every aspect of their lives and was determined to show his children how much he loved them.  His undying desire was to buy a home for him and his children to live.  Driven by that desire, and the consequences of choice he made, ultimately led to his demise.  But he will be remembered by many as a strong man who loved and devoted himself to his family.  He leaves many loved ones to mourn his passing:  his father James (Diana) of Cleveland, OH; his mother Laurel (Scott) Stanley of Warren, RI;  his grandmother, Irene Reid of New York, NY, step-grandmother Ella Reid of Cleveland, OH; and step-grandmother Pearle Ellington of Cleveland, OH;  his sister Angela Person (Erik) of Suffolk, VA; his brother Renaldo Cockrum of Portsmouth, RI; his beloved brother Jayson Reid Sr. of Cleveland, OH; his sister Rachel Reid of Cleveland, OH; his step sister Artavia Hardwick of Cleveland, OH; nephews Robert, Ra-nell and Ryan Smith of Suffolk, Virginia, Tre Cockrum of Portsmouth RI and Jayson Reid Jr. of Cleveland, OH; the mothers of his children Maria Clark (James IV) and April Mitchell (Jamyah), both of Cleveland, OH; over a dozen aunts and uncles, numerous cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances who loved him.  Our ray is already truly missed, but he will never he forgotten.
