Bertha Samuel - Thompson
(April 24, 1928 - October
15, 2007)
Mother
Bertha M. Samuel-Thompson was born April 24, 1928 in Wayne, Alabama
to Maxie and Essie (nee Williams) Miller. She grew up and
attended school in Baker, Florida. Mother Thompson came to
Cleveland in 1963 where she later married Bishop Willie C. Samuel. Mother Thompson was
a wonderful Church Mother who was saved, sanctified and filled with
the Holy Ghost. She worshipped under Pastor Samuel Lockhart. After
the passing of Pastor Lockhart, Bishop Samuel established his own
church where she served for over fifteen years as the First Lady.
After the passing of her husband, Bishop Samuel, Mother worshipped
and served under Pastors Freddie Thomas and Willie Winbush. Mother Thompson and
Elder Isaac Thompson married in 1993 and joined Peoples Church of
God in Christ in 1996. They both remained faithful and supportive
to this ministry until God called them home. Mother Thompson was
a “true example of Discipleship”. She knew how to calm you down and
cast the devil out at the same time. Mother knew what it meant and
took to “live holy”. She had a habit of asking God to forgive her
everyday, even when things were alright. Mother Thompson was
known as a “Prayer Warrior” who knew how to reach heaven. Sometimes
God answered her right away, and sometimes he said not now. If you knew Mother
Thompson, you knew how she loved music, quartet groups and good
gospel preaching from her Pastor and the late Bishop G.E.
Patterson. Mother might have been a “senior citizen” in age, but
not in spirit. She praised God in a dance until her body couldn’t
keep up. Mother had a library of Christian Videos and DVDs. When
she could no longer attend church, she was still having church in
her home. Mother Thompson “WILL BE
MISSED” Mother Bertha M.
Samuel-Thompson went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2007,

Lemon Scruggs
(February 17, 1923 - June 14, 2006)
On February 17, 1923,
God made a special delivery to the late Horace and Carrie Scruggs with
the birth of LeMon, the seventh of thirteen children. In July of 1953,
God guided LeMon to meet Harriet Moore. They found that they shared
Christian values and had other common interests. They fell in love and
married on December 11, 1954. General Motors was the
recipient of his hard worked from 1952 until his retirement in 1985. He
encouraged others to seek employment there and was always happy when he
saw others trying to improve themselves, especially in academia. No
academic achievement was too small and he often commented on the fact
that youngsters today were not taking advantage of opportunities he
wished he had had when he was their age. He was the embodiment of a man
who loved his family and his church. His constant desire was that his
family and his friends, "Keep in touch!" Who could possibly list all of
his church activities? He served as an usher, Sunday School teacher,
elder, groundskeeper, garbage man, gate keeper, food server, and
dishwasher. he was also a member of The Servants for Christ. He was
awarded a plaque from the Missionary Society for his service to the
organization, even though he was not a member. His love of gospel music
was evident to those who saw him at choir rehersals, where he was often
seen with this eyes closed and his head bobbing - "directing" the choir
from the pews. As long as his health permitted, he did not
allow grass to grow under his feet. God decided that on the morning of
June 14, 2006, LeMon's job on earth was done. Left to continue the

Demitrius Alan Lewis
Simpson
(September 9, 1983 -
November 28, 2005)
Demitrius Alan Lewis Simpson (“Meech”) was born on September
9, 1983 in San Jose, California as
the biological son of David Lewis and Cheryl Jones-Lewis. As a child,
he was very kind and heart giving, often aiding his grandparents,
William and Adell Jones, at the young age of four. Becoming a ward of the State of California and no longer
being able to live with his grandparents, Demitrius, along with his
brother Terrell, were moved from California to Cleveland, Ohio in 1990.
Demitrius and his brother were placed in the care of William and Sylvia
Simpson in an effort to keep the family ties together (Sylvia is the
blood relative). After years of foster care, the Simpson family adopted
Demitrius and Terrell. Meech showed a very high intelligence in his grade school and
junior high years, often achieving honor and merit roll grades. Having
been given a child’s drum set, he learned rhythms and beats quickly, so
he joined the Drum Corps of Shiloh Baptist Church under the guidance of
his grade school music teacher. Demitrius had many good times with his new family and longed
for his California family. Many times he would visit and laugh about the
things he did with his siblings while growing up. Although he was
raised in the church, Demitrius did not come to Christ until he was a
young adult. He joined and was baptized at Greater Friendship Baptist
Church, where the pastor is Dr. Larry Howard. On November 28, 2005, Demitrius Alan Lewis Simpson’s spirit
departed from us around 9:45 p.m. In his leaving, Meech takes with him
the love of the family that has survived him: his son, Demitrius A.
Simpson, Jr.; his mothers, Sylvia L. Simpson and Cheryl Jones-Lewis; his
fathers, William T. Simpson and David Lewis; common-law-wife, Cristina
Williams; his sisters, Katrina Williams Myers, DeJorel and Frances
Simpson, DaQuandra Lewis, and Monica Phelps; his brothers, Terrell and
Nickolas Simpson, Markell Harris and Johnny Phelps; his
