Leroy Tabb Jr.
(March 22, 1931 - October 23, 2006)
Leroy Tabb Jr. was born in Selma, Alabama to
Leroy Tabb Sr. and Alberta Tabb who precede him in death. They
were parents of 12 children, three girls and nine boys, Leroy was the
second child. He attended Elementary and High School in
Selma, Alabama. He accepted Christ at an early age. He later
met Carrie Poole and they were united in holy matrimony. From this
union one daughter was born (Kimberly). Leroy worked at Alcoy for
36 years until he retired. He was a member of Starlight for 49
years and on Starlight's Usher's Ministry all while he was a member. He was affectionately known as Mr. Usher.
Instructor for usher throughtout Ohio. Treasurer for the National
Baptist Convention USA, Ushers Department for many years. He was
the Forth Vice the National Ushers, president for many years of the Ohio
Baptist State Ushers Department, also president of the Union Missionary
Baptist District Association Ushers Department. The Highlight of
his life is when he went to the Baptist World Alliance. He made
sure Starlight's ushers were well versed in ushering, by taking them
through the drills on Monday nights. He was also on the Trustee's
Ministry. He leaves to cherish his memory; his
wife, Carrie, daughter Kimberly Billips, granddaughter Kiera Billips;
sisters Mariah Jones and Alberta (Jerome) Williams.
Leon Rudolph Tanks
(October 16, 1930 - September 6, 2007)
Leon
Rudolph Tanks was born on October 16, 1930 in Killarney (Raleigh
County), West Virginia to the union of Ernest and Hilda (nee Cook)
Tanks and accepted Christ into his life at an early age. “Coon”,
as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Raleigh County
School System and graduated from Byrd Prillerman High School. During the 1950’s,
Leon married Doris Divers and to their union two children were
born. Leon later moved to Cleveland, Ohio in search of better
employment opportunities. In 2005, Leon retired from the Motorcars
Group where he worked in the automotive service and maintenance
areas for more than thirty years. Not one to just sit around, Leon
continued to work after his retirement at Holiday Inn Hotels. Leon was a soft
spoken, quiet and somewhat private man. He was free hearted and
enjoyed being with his family. He was also a hard worker and was
respected by his co-workers. The activity he seemed to enjoy the
most was horseracing. Leon immersed himself in all facets of the
sport which included horse grooming, meeting with the trainers and
jockeys, as well as watching and betting on the races. On Thursday
September 6, 2007, Leon departed this life. He is preceded in death
by both of his parents; siblings Janet Ross, Ernest Tanks Jr. and
James Tanks; and daughter Debra Wingfield. Those left to mourn
and to cherish his memories include children Vickie Shipe, Priscilla
Ann (Lester) Wyatt and Leon Laster; sisters Ernestine Dozier and
Leigh Penney; brothers Alphonso Tanks, Larry Tanks, Jerry Tanks and
Tyrone (Vickie) Tanks; sister-in-law, Sylvia Tanks; extended
family Curlene Gilbert and the children he helped to raise which
include Katrina (David) Howard, George Gilbert and Brian Gilbert;
and best friend Willie Minniefield. Leon’s legacy continues with
grandchildren, other loving relatives and friends and he will truly
be missed.

Annie Thurman Taylor
(October 8, 1927 - June 22, 2007)
Annie
Thurman was born on October 8, 1927 in Barnesville, Georgia to Sally
Hightower-Thurman and Willie Thurman, Sr. Annie was raised and
educated in Georgia. Annie later met David Taylor, Sr. and
the two were married and migrated to Cleveland, Ohio. To their union
four children were born. Anne was an outspoken, spunky, "tell you
like it is" kind of person! She would tell you what she though and
didn't think twice. Annie later accepted Christ into her life and
became laid back and reserved. However she would still tell you off
when you needed it! Annie's favorite saying was " by the
help of the good Lord." Those who knew her best called her Ms.
Ann. Annie loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. On June 22, 2007, Annie went home to be
with the Lord. Anne was preceded in death by her parents Willie
Thurman Sr. and Sally Thurman; siblings Louise, John, Billy, Hazel,
Ester Bee; and her eldest child Geraldine Taylor. Those left to mourn and to cherish her
memories include daughters, Willene and Barbara (Rahman), and son,
David Jr.; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren;
siblings Willie Jr., Francis, Wynell and Dorothy; sister-in-law
Bernice; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Japan to loving parents, Anthony and Tiffany Taylor, Sr. Later that

Debra
Jean Bennett Taylor was born on March 2, 1966 to the parents of
Billy Ray and Alice Bennett in Goshen,
Alabama. Debra
attended schools in Oklahoma until her family moved to Cleveland,
Ohio in 1975. She then
attended Cleveland Public Schools where she graduated from
East Tech High School. Debra accepted Christ at an early age
and attended New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Debra
mothered four (4) beautiful children. She later moved to
Youngstown,
Ohio where she was employed at the Salvation Army. Debra was
not a stranger to work and she enjoyed what she did. Debra
worked up until her sickness overtook her. In 1997 she was united in holy matrimony to Robert
Taylor. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Robert
Taylor of Youngstown, Ohio; her mother Alice Bennett; her father
Billy Ray Bennett; one daughter, Latrice; three sons, Walter,
Antonio and Darren; three grandchildren, Tequan, Justin, and
Ronashia, all of Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Eddie and James
Bennett; two sisters, Brenda and Cynthia Bennett; one
sister-in-law, Patricia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Della Mae Taylor
(July 16, 1933 - December 25, 2006)
Della
Mae Manning was born on July 16, 1933 in Gaffney, South Carolina, to
the late Will and Peola Sarratt Manning. She was the eldest of two
children. Her brother Thomas Miller preceded her in death.
Her parents died at
an early age and Della was raised by her Aunt and Uncle Boyce and
Verne Sarratt in Cleveland, Ohio where Della accepted Christ and
joined the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. Della was a loving
wife and mother. She was married to the late Willie Taylor. She
was the mother of six children: Michael (Denise), Mitchell who
preceded her in death, Jeffery, Verenda, Shawn (Vickie) and Rodney. Della attended
Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from John Hay High School.
She also attended Cuyahoga Community College where she received a
certificate in Dietary Hospitality. She worked at Metro Hospital
for more than 20 years. She was a very soft spoken person who
wouldn’t say anything wrong about anyone. She leaves to cherish
her memories: children, Michael (Denise) Manning, Jeffery, Verenda,
Shawn (Vickie), Rodney Taylor; brothers and sisters Boyce Jr.,

Fred Taylor
(January 15, 1926 - April 6, 2007)
Mr.
Fred Taylor was born to Will Hike Taylor and Lucille Taylor. He was
the second of three children to this union. He confessed hope in
Christ at an early age and joined the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist
Church. He attended school in Coatopa, Alabama. Fred (Bro.) joined
the United States Navy in January of 1944 and received a honorable
discharge. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1950’s and
attended Max Hayes trade school and became a core maker. Fred worked for
Alcoa Aluminum many years, later he went to work for Adalet where he
retired. On the morning of April 6th, around 7:00AM in the comfort
of his home, Bro. stepped across the threshold and grew his wings
into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Teele was born on January 16, 2006 in East Cleveland, Ohio to Lorraine
Teele and to Darryl Wilson. On February
19, 2006, this little lamb was called home to be with the Lord. Little Kahlio

George Terry, Jr.
(December 30, 1937 - September 23, 2006)
George “Boot” Terry, Jr.
was born December 30, 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama to the union of George
Terry, Sr. and the late Pearlie (nee Davis) Terry. George was baptized
at an early age at the Jackson Street Baptist Church in Montgomery. He later came to
Cleveland, Ohio in 1950 and brought his membership to Mt. Olive
Missionary Baptist Church. George later joined the United States
Air Force in 1955 and was discharged with full honors in 1967. He
became employed at Cleveland Builders Supply here in Cleveland and
later moved to Detroit, Michigan where he was gainfully employed at
Ford Motor Company. After retiring from
Ford Motors, George returned to Cleveland, Ohio in 1995 and worked
for Medport Transportation. He then started his own business in the
year 2002 known as Terry’s Transportation where he worked until
illness would no longer allow him to do so. Those left to mourn
and to cherish George’s memory include his father, George Terry,
Sr.; stepmother, Pearlie (nee Penn) Terry; two daughters, Theresa
Williams-Renda (Linell) and Georgenette Carter-Peoples (Glenn);
three sisters, Willa Hudson, Myrtle Bryant, and Vanessa Nichols;
one brother, Stanley Terry; a devoted companion, Jeanette George;
six grandchildren, Saletha, Glennisha, Kylissa, Genna, Cliffton, and
LaAsia; one great-grandchild, Ly-Mya, all of Cleveland, Ohio; as
well as a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Robert Earl Terry
(January 25, 1953 - February 8, 2007)
Robert Earl Terry was born on January 25, 1953 in Brundidge, Alabama
to C.B. and Minnie (McGuire) Terry.
He graduated from Shaw High School, traveled to Alabama and taught
auto mechanics at Pike County High School. He then became an
elementary school teacher where he was his own daughter’s teacher in
Brundidge, Alabama at Spring Hill Elementary. On his travels back
to Cleveland, he became an auto mechanic teacher at John Carroll
University here in Cleveland, Ohio and continued his life as an auto
mechanic.
On February 8, 2007, he departed this life in Cleveland, Ohio. He
is preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Royce
Terry, Shirley Ann and Benny Paul.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory two loving daughters, LaDedia
Shy of Marrietta, Georgia and Angie Terry of Cleveland, Ohio; three
loving grandchildren, Mylo, Adia Shy, and Adam Williams, all of
Marrietta, Georgia; three sisters, Dorothy Lightfoot of Brundidge,
Alabama, Addie Coleman and Janice Terry, both of Cleveland, Ohio;

Eric Olanda Tidmore
(September 15, 1959 - March 5, 2004)
Eric Olanda Tidmore,
lovingly know as "Shag", was born September 15, 1959 in Whitfield,
Alabama to the late Mary Tidmore and Jesse Hudson. Shag accepted
Christ at an early age and, as a child, attended Damascus Baptist
Church. Shag spent his
formative years in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Martin Luther
King High School in 1978. He had a love for basketball and played
on his high school team. Because of his passion for the sport he
occasionally coached and served as a referee at the Thurgood
Marshall Recreation Center. Shag was known to
be quiet, kind hearted and to have a genuine concern for others. Shag was able to
put his many hidden talents to use while holding a variety of odd
jobs during the course of his working career. After having left
Cleveland for a number of years, he returned in January 2004 and was
diagnosed with colon cancer. Shag, who was with
family at the time, departed this life on Friday, March 5, 2004. He
leaves to mourn: a father, Jesse (Fannie) Hudson; three brothers,
Larry Tidmore, Terrence Hudson and Orlando L. (Sheree) Hudson;
three sisters, Cheryl I. Hudson, Cynthia D. Hudson and Vernadell A
Hudson; several aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and
friends.

Gertie Pearl Thomas

Gertie Pearl Thomas
was born on February 17, 1921 in Newnan, Georgia to the loving union
of Thomas Petty and Grace Glass. Gertie moved to Cleveland, Ohio at
an early age and attended Cleveland Public Schools. Gertie accepted
Christ at an early age and attended services at Cory Methodist
Church in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a loving housewife and was a
caregiver of many neighborhood children. In addition to Gertie
being a housewife, she and her husband ran a laundry mat on Hayden
and Mayfair Road in East Cleveland. She also was a School Crossing
Guard at the corner of Terrace and Noble. Gertie loved people -
especially children; many of whom still called her “Grandma” and
“Mom”. Gertie departed this
life to be with the Lord on July 18, 2007. Her parents, Grace and
Thomas Petty; son, George M. Thomas; her beloved brothers, Melvin,
James and Tommy Lee Petty, all preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn
her passing and cherish her memory her loving son Jerome (Theresa)
Petty; her daughters, Marianne Rose, Jacquelyn (Otis) Black, Rita
(Tony) Tatum, Sherri (Danny) Adams; sister-in-law, Joyce Cherry;
twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives
and many, many loving friends.
John Thomas Jr.
(January 31, 1943 - July 7, 2007)
John
Thomas Jr. was born January 31, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to John
Thomas Sr. (deceased) and Evelyn F. Thomas. He graduated from East
Technical High School after which he went on to attend Mechanics
school at Thomas Edison. He joined the United States Army in 1968
and received a medical discharge in 1969 after injuring his right
knee. He met and fell in love with Linda C. Thomas where he raised
Aretha and Alicia and together they had Jalene and Jameen. John and
Linda were devoted to each other until her death July 6, 1989. He
then reunited, fell in love with and married, long time friend, Mary
Carr, February 22, 2000, where he became father to Donald, Sabrina,
James and Robert. John worked for
a few years at Alcoa before he went to work for the City of
Cleveland, after several years he became a foreman. He retired after
26 with an honorable 4 years to give him 30 years of service. He
loved working on cars. He was co-owner to an automotive repair shop
here in Cleveland. He could fix any car, if you broke it, he found a
way to make it work again. Big John, Daddy,
Papa and Ba (just a few of his names) loved sugar cookies, Mamma’s
pound cake, Evelyn’s (sister) homemade rolls and burned cabbage. He
loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play, and
any western movie or television show he could find. Although he was
saved at a young age he found a church home in the Pillar of Fire
House of God in March 2006 where he soon became a deacon and a
teacher. He attended every service until his illness. After over nine
years of illness John went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2007. John leaves to
cherish his memory his loving wife Mary; devoted mother, Evelyn
Thomas; eight children, Donald Carr, Aretha Williams, Sabrina Carr,
Alicia Wilson (Duane), James Carr, Jalene Pardon, Robert Carr
(Regina Smith) and Jameen Thomas (Lorenzo Wiggins); two sisters that
preceded him in death Elberta Thomas and Kathryn Ruffin (Johnny);
six remaining siblings, Otis Thomas, Arlene Newton, Evelyn W.
Thomas, Arthur Thomas (Helen) Darrell Thomas; and Millard Johnson
(cousin); 26 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of

Mary Lee Thomas
(September 24, 1926 - January 8, 2008)
Mary Lee was born
September 24, 1926 to the late Johnny & Annie Davis in Pickens
County, Alabama. The family later moved to Bessemer, Ala. when she
grew and attended school. After the death of
her father, her mother later remarried McKinley Jones and from this
marriage one sister was born (Patricia) and she was also embraced by
the love of 1 step sister (Annie Bee) and 3 step brothers (Phil &
Kirk deceased) and Arnold. Mary later married
Percy Thomas (deceased) and from this union 2 children were born -
Annette and Abdul Shakura Abdul Mujib (deceased). Mary received
Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Union Grove
Baptist Church where she served until her health failed. She worked
for many years at Swift Dry Cleaners where she retired due to her
health. Mary departed this
life on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 and she leaves to mourn her passing
a devoted daughter Annette (Donald) Leftwich; a loving sister,
Patricia (George -deceased) Seay; a step brother, Arnold(Lula)
Jones; 8 grandchildren, Veda(Kevin)Mathews; Donna Leftwich; Sabrina
(Matryal) Green; Donald Leitwich II; Yasin Abdul Mujib; Muntasir
Abdul Mujib; Asma Abdul Mujib & Zulailhah Abdul Mujib; 17 Great
Grandchildren-James Leftwich, Brittney Green, Tiara Leftwich, Dwight
Carter, Matryal Green Jr., Donald Leftwich Ill, Parris Leftwich,
Alyssa, Sierra & Alexander Mathews, Haneef, Khayree, Yasmine, Ali,

Wickliffe Country Place before departing this life and the family

spoiled her during her stay there.
Pamela Sue Thomas
Pamela Sue Thomas was born to Albert and Willie Mae Thomas on
May 12, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was educated in the Cleveland
Public School system and baptized at an early age under the late Bro. J.
S. Winston at University Church of Christ. Pamela was always a kind-hearted and loving person. She
stole the hearts of all the children with whom she came in contact.
Pam, who was affectionately nicknamed “Paladin” by her then 3-year old
sister, Evelyn, was considered to be a very good cook. She opened her
home and kitchen to everyone and she met no strangers! Pam is preceded in death by three brothers - Albert Thomas,
Jr., Johnny Thomas, and Eric Thomas, and by one brother-in-law - Leroy
Loyd. Those left to mourn and to cherish her memory include her
husband, John Smith; four sons, Stephen, Marlon, Deon and Albert;
parents, Willie Mae Thomas and Albert (Sandra) Thomas; three
grandchildren, Devon, Destiny and Treasure Fay; six siblings, Carolyn
(Collier) Ray of Lorain, Ohio, Theresa Brown, Evelyn Loyd, Andrea
Thomas, Kenneth Thomas and Andre’ Strozier; two stepbrothers, Bernard
Hails, Jr., and Jeffery (Sandra) Hails, and one stepsister, Bernetta
Regains, all of Detroit, Michigan; one step-grandmother, Mrs. Polly
Ellis of Brooklyn, New York; four aunts, Carrie Thomas and Myrtle
Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio, Cleola Piderit of Hartsdale, New York, and
Maggie Henderson of Brooklyn, New York; three sisters-in-law, Sharon
Smith and Sheila Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michelle (Nolan) Robinson
of South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Bernard Smith and Rodrick
Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, and Demetrius (Marie) Smith of Dayton, Ohio;
her oldest niece, Renee’ (Valentine) Benjamin, who was very dear to Pam
and who Pam preferred calling “Bones”; as well as a host of nieces,
nephews and other loving relatives and friends. We will surely miss her here, but the angels are certainly
blessed having Pam home … never a dull moment!
Terri Ann Thomas
Terri Ann Calhoun was
born on January 27, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She departed this
life on February 20, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. Terri Ann was the eldest
child of Catherine Ann and Walter Calhoun. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio
as a small child and attended Patrick Henry Junior High School and Jane
Addams High School. Terri was a gifted student and also excelled as a
seamstress. Terri Ann wed Frederick
Thomas in 1966. This former union blessed them with two children. After high school, Terri
Ann went to work for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA).
She began her career as a clerical associate and worked her way up to
management. Terri considered CMHA as
her second family. There she served many residents and nurtured many
friendships during her 38-year career. The CMHA family was very special
to her and she to them. Terri’s years of service and her willingness to
help her colleagues earned her the reputation as the CMHA “librarian,”
possessing a wealth of knowledge. Terri retired from CMHA in 2004 and
embarked upon a life of relaxation, spending time with her children and
grandchildren, shopping, and traveling. Terri was diagnosed with
cancer in 2005. She fought a courageous battle, but in the end she was
called home. Terri leaves behind a
devoted daughter and son in-law, Traci and Richard Larde II of Atlanta,
Georgia, loving son and daughter-in-law, Cedrick Thomas and Lananna
Collier-Thomas of Dallas, Texas, three grandchildren: Cedrick
Collier-Thomas, Leyanna Collier-Thomas, and Jevanna Collier-Thomas.
Terri is also survived by other loving family members including, sister
Patricia Colquitt, brothers Jalil Khabir and Charles Calhoun, sister in
law Vernell Calhoun, sister Peppi Johnson, brothers Andre Calhoun,
Derrick Calhoun, Richard Brenstan, Marcell Calhoun, uncle Monroe Hudson,
and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Terri’s parents, brother Victor Calhoun, and sister Sherry Clark
preceded her in rest. Terri Ann was a
wonderful, compassionate, intelligent, and loving woman who touched the
lives of many. She will be dearly missed.
Vinelle Thomas
(October 24, 1936 - January 14, 2008)
Vinelle
Thomas was born on October 24, 1936 in Albany, Georgia to the union
of Henry and Almeeta (nee Nelson) Johnson. When she was just a
young girl, Vinelle moved with her family to Cleveland, Ohio where
she completed her education. She later became a nurse and worked at
MetroHealth Medical Center until she retired after thirty-one years
of service. Vinelle also became a member of Unity Baptist Church
where she served until her health began to fail. Vinelle was somewhat
of a quiet woman whose home was the center of many family activities
and where many of her excellent homecooked meals were enjoyed.
After retirement, Vinelle liked to watch the game show network and
she enjoyed football with the Pittsburgh Steelers being her favorite
team. In addition, Vinelle was proud to be one of Usher’s biggest
fans! On Monday January
14, 2008, Vinelle entered into eternal rest. Those family members
who preceded her in death include her parents; her husband Samuel

Cleveland, OH, Charles (Linda) Clark of Cleveland, OH and Tonya
(Clifton) Clark-Reid of Euclid, OH; one sister, Jeanette (Julius)
Murray of Albany, GA; twelve grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; stepmother, Lillian Johnson; stepsisters,
Vivian, Dava Lee, and Dorothy; stepbrothers, Kenny and Charles; as

Eva Bumgarner Thompson

Eva Bumgarner
Thompson was born August 10, 1932 in Hickory North Carolina, to
the late Ula and Ester Bumgarner. She was the youngest of sic children.
Her siblings Lloyd, Ruth, Cecil and Simpson all proceeded her in death.
Her sister Madeline is the last surviving sibling, at the age of 93.
Eva departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Huron
Road Hospital. At the age of 74. Eva was affectionately known and lovingly
called "Ms. Eva" by Terry Sr., the other children called her "Mama" and
her grandchild called her "Granny". Eva accepted Christ at an early age in
Hickory, North Carolina. She later united with Mt. Olive Missionary
Baptist Church under the leadership if Rev. Larry L, Harris, Sr. Eva graduated from Ridgeview High School in
1948, upon graduation she married the Luther Alexander Thompson Sr. (who
proceeded her in death) and then they moved to Cleveland Ohio. To this
union is nine children; Terry Sr., Luther Jr., Felix, Althea (who
proceeded her in death) Ella, Sterling, Everette, Lucy, and George. Eva was very quiet person but always had her
doors open to her children's friends and all of the neighborhood
children. Eva leaves to
cherish her memories: loving and devoted children Lucy (Richard) who
cared for her until her death, Terry Sr. (Elaine), Luther Jr. (Mary),
Felix (Crystal), Ella, Sterling, Everette (Susan Gale), George (Meisha),
sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Madeline
Bumgarner of Hickory, North Carolina,; one sister-in-law, Hattie Adams
of Granite Falls, North Carolina and a host of family and friends.

Lywondra Toland
(August 27, 1968 - April 10, 2006)
Lywondra Toland, who was one of eight children, was born on August 27,
1968 to Emmett Hollins and Martha Westmoreland. She attended
Cleveland Public Schools and completed her education at Shaker Heights
High School. In recent years, she became a member of Blessed Hope
Missionary Baptist Church. While working as a security guard at
Metro Security for several years, she was rewarded for her achievements
on the job. Once she entered into motherhood, she employed herself
as a homemaker. Lywondra was an outgoing, diversified
person with many interests, some of which included everything from
outdoor adventure to cooking. She enjoyed horseback riding,
camping and fishing and even wanted to try her hand at bungee jumping
and whitewater rafting. Lywondra liked dogs, and her favorite one
was her Aunt's Chow-Chow, Caesar. Singing gospel and country music
was another enjoyable past-time of hers as well as dancing. Lywondra was a happy person, and she
wanted others around her to be happy. She was always smiling and
laughing and ready to help, even if it meant giving her last. One
of her trademark quotes was "Quit your frowning and put a smile on your
face!" Left to cherish her memory is her
daughter, Tiana Newett; four sons, Kenneth E. Newett, Samuel Lee Toland,
Jacob Lee Toland, and Robert Lee Toland; mother, Martha Toland; three
sisters, Alfreda Ballard, Stephanie Toland, and Latonia Toland; four
brothers, John W. Ballard, Richard Lee Toland of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, Jeffery A. Toland and Jermaine K. Toland; best friend,
Lisa Douglas, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
John Kevin Tolliver
(December 4, 1961 - November
19,
2003)
John Kevin
Tolliver was born on December 4, 1961 to the late Arthur James Tolliver
and Betty Sue Billop-Tolliver in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the
seventh of eight children. One sister, Wylene F. Floyd preceded
him in death.
John, known to many as Kevin,
began his education in the Cleveland Public School System and then
attended Bedford High School. Kevin was employed as a Funeral
Attendant for many years, a job he loved dearly; he also worked
for Sherwin Williams. He was a dedicated employee who very rarely
missed work. Pastor W.C. Jones baptized Kevin
at the New Galilee Baptist church in August of 1993. Kevin was
joined in holy matrimony to Carolyn Ditonya Lockhart on August 9, 2003. Whenever Kevin came around, there
was no doubt that he had arrived. If his sharp style of dress did
not catch your attention, his loud voice and sense of humor would.
Thoughts of Kevin in his (always clean and shiny) Red Cadillac was sure
to put a smile on your face. He loved his family and was always
willing to help them. He will be truly missed! Kevin departed this precious life
on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. He leaves to cherish his memories
a loving wife, Carolyn; four sons, John, Kevin, Gerald and Gerall;
two daughters, Keisha and Sierra; a loving mother, Betty Tolliver
of Huntsville, Alabama; one brother, Arthur Jr. (Wanda) Tolliver;
five sisters, Barbara (Frank) Franklin of Decatur, Alabama, Atlene
Germany, Sondra (Keith) Williams; Ethel (Bill) Seymore of Elyria, Ohio
and Shirley Tolliver; mother-in-law, Gloria Robinson;
brother and sister-in-law, Samuel Robinson and Joyce Lockhart; two
God-children, Perrionna Austin and Chariana Shelton; along with a
host of other relatives and friends.
Shirley E. Tolliver
(December 12, 1962 - January 29, 2008)
Shirley
Elaine Tolliver was born on December 12, 1962 to the late Arthur
James Tolliver Sr. and Betty Sue Billop-Tolliver in Montgomery
Alabama. Shirley was the baby of eight children. One sister, Wylene
F. Floyd, One brother John Kevin Tolliver, and a son Antwuan
Cooper-Tolliver preceded her in death. Shirley was known
to many as Elaine. She began her education in Cleveland Public
School System and went on to graduate from Bedford Heights School
System. Elaine was a dedicated employee in the Security Industry
and rarely missed work she was employed by LTV Steel Company, Burns
Security, and Industrial Security Service. Elaine gave her
life to Christ at an early age she was baptized by the Late Reverend
Womack at the Mt. Haven Baptist Church. During her lifetime she
presented to this world 3 lovely baby boys. On April 30, 1982 there
came James Phillips Jr., on July 2, 1985 there was Antwuan
Cooper-Tolliver who preceded her in death and last but not least on
April 24, 1997 there came Jermaine Phillips. Elaine loved the
color red and had a love for shoes. Just like her brother Kevin she
loved Cadillacs, she also loved to make you laugh and had a great
sense of humor. Shirley Elaine Tolliver was always ready to get down
for those who knew her you know what I mean and she will truly be
missed. God summoned this
special ‘angel” to return to Heaven on Tuesday January 29, 2008. She
leaves to cherish her memory two loving sons James Phillips and
Jermaine Deshawn Phillips; one loving grandson Jamere Deshawn
Phillip, a loving mother Betty Tolliver of Montgomery, Alabama, one
brother Arthur Jr. (Wanda,) Tolliver and four sisters, Barbara
(Frank) Franklin of Decatur, Alabama, Atlene Sims and Sondra (Keith)
Williams both of Cleveland Ohio, Ethel (Willie) Seymore of Elyria,
Ohio. She had thirteen nephews and five nieces, a host of relatives
and friends.
Rosa Toney
(September 24, 1930 - February 12, 2007)
Rosa Toney was born
September 24, 1930 in Wilsonville, Alabama, in Shelby County, to
Nathaniel and Geneva Kelly (both deceased). She was the eldest of
five children - three sisters and one brother. She grew up in
Talladega, Alabama until moving to Cleveland, Ohio in the
mid-1940’s. She was educated in the Cleveland Public School
Systems. She often served as a Caregiver for her younger brother
and sisters. She labored in the garment industry as a presser,
seamstress and steam operator for Godfrey, Inc. for a number of
years before she entered into the food preparation industry along
with a number of other jobs in Cleveland. In 1955, she united
with L.C. Toney from Huntsville, Alabama and later married in
Cleveland Ohio and from this union, one son, Terry L. Toney. In
1967, Rosa became a widow and never remarried. Her hobbies included
sewing, knitting, decorating and collecting. Rosa was a devoted
loving, caring, self sacrificing, concerned, helpful, strict and
very vocal individual around family and all who knew her. She was
resourceful, well informed, dependable and was there when you needed
her, self educated, independent, intelligent and very strong willed. Rosa, was a well
respected sophisticated woman who was conscious about her
appearance. She loved to smile, laugh, talk, have a good time, and
encouraged everyone around her. Rosa attended Mount Sinai Baptist
Church, where she was baptized under the pastoral ship of Reverend
Abraham and found the grace of God in her Lord & Savor Jesus Christ,
as her strength and source of peace and happiness until she departed
February 12 2007. Rosa was very well loved and admired and will be
truly missed by all. Rosa was preceded by
her mother and husband, and leaves behind one son, Terry Toney,
grandson Antwoine (Johnson) Toney, three sisters, Eva Smith, Hattie
Scott, Dorothy Grayson, and one brother Eugene Kelly, and a host of
nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.
Luevenia
Tucker-Chambers (July 30, 1934 - April 3, 2007)
Luevenia
Tucker-Chambers was born to Emma Jean Williams and the late Deacon
Daniel Williams Sr. on July 30, 1934. She was the second oldest out
of eight children (Betty Jean Robinson, Daniel Williams Jr., Ronald
Williams, Veda General, Lynn Williams, Linda Burton, James
Williams). Luevenia received
Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Second Mount Olive
Baptist Church under the late Rev. George H. Caslin. She went on to
sing with the Prestionians, one of whom is now the Pastor of Morning
Star Baptist Church. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 121 and
Psalms 23. Luevenia completed
her high school education at Central High School, after which she
was united with the late Monroe Tucker and to this union six
children were born. She was known by many for her cooking and her
love for children. Because of her strong passion for children she
pursued and completed her education as a childcare provider, went on
to work at the Social Culture Learning Center as daycare teacher,
and later started her own home daycare. Luevenia leaves to
cherish her loving memories her husband Pat Chambers along with her
six children: Marilyn Gilliam, Michelle Hudson, Monroe Williams,
Marsha Williams who preceded her in death, Marva Williams and Maria
Watson; five stepchildren, and one adopted daughter Laura. Her
greatest joy was her ten grandchildren: Charles, VaTasha,
Dirotheius, Joei, Mickoya, Monique, Alexandra, Ernest Jr., Taisain,
and Doreen; and eleven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces,
nephews and other relatives along with a countless number of
friends. Luevenia was
affectionaly known as “Tootsie”, “Sis”, “Ma”, “Ma Chambers”,
“Woman”, “Lady”, and “Thunder”. She will be sadly missed.
Eula Turner
(July 21, 1930 - October 5, 2007)
Eula
Turner was born into this life on July 21, 1930 and ascended into
eternity on October 5, 2007. She was born in
Covington, Georgia to the union of the late Roscoe and Gertrude
Hall. Eula was the eighth of ten children, five of who preceded her
in death. She accepted Christ at an early age at Richards Chapel
United Methodist Church in Covington, Georgia.
Eula moved to
Cleveland in 1950 to help her brother with his sixteen month old
daughter. After coming to Cleveland, she joined and served as a
faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for over thirty years.
She was united in marriage to Crayton Turner in 1955, who preceded
her in death in 1992. Eula was a diligent
worker in her lifetime. For twenty-eight years, from 1950-1978, she
worked for Polyclinic Hospital; the next four years, she worked at
Ford Motor Company and from 1983 until her health failed, she gave
personal care to Christine Ryan through the State Board. “Crissy”
and the Ryan family were dear to her. Eula’s life was all
about family and church and she loved the Lord, her pastor and her
church family. Eula, who was affectionately called “BB” by her
nieces and nephews, was dedicated, faithful, caring and loving to
her family and friends. She specialized in sending gifts of love
(towering fruit baskets) to the sick and shut-in, convalescents and
those in the hospital. Her favorite saying to her church family
was, “Let me help someone as I pass along the way, for I may never
pass this way again.” She took an active part in many ministries of
the church. Let it be noted, Eula worked tirelessly as a volunteer
in the kitchen for “all” of the church’s programs. Each ministry
could “count on Eula.” She was actively involved in many of the
church’s organizations such as: the Mass Choir (tenor section),
where she proclaimed the self title, “Songbird of the West”; The
Matron Guild, The Sunday School, The Pastoral Service Committee, and
was a very strong supporter of Zion Hill’s Scholarship.
Nancy E. Tyree
(August 10, 1927 - January 17, 2008)
Nancy
Ethel Tyree was born on August 10, 1927 in Carrsville, Virginia to
Rufus Wesley and Lillie Valley Staggs. Nancy was one of seven
siblings, five of whom preceded her in death, Lella “Sissy”,
Jeannette, Fred “Bubba”, Melvin and Marie, and her only surviving
sibling, Elsie “Lennie”. She was called from labor to reward on
January 17, 2008.
Nancy was educated in Virginia’s public schools. During her senior
year a job opportunity at Mayburn Knitting Mill opened up and she
relocated to Habaken, New Jersey.
In May 1952, Nancy
met Thomas Crackett Tyree Jr. and they entered into holy matrimony.
To that union, they were blessed with three sons, Thomas Michael,
Richard and Ronald and one daughter, Karyn. Nancy was a skilled
seamstress and made many bridal gowns for friends and family alike.
She enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughter until she reach high
school. In 1969, she worked as a seamstress for Bobbie Brooks. In
1974, Nancy started working as a machine operator for Boise Cascade
and she retired after 20 years, without missing one day of work.
Nancy came out of retirement in 1996, when her daughter had a car
accident, to help support the family. She retired in 2000, from
Parklane Foods after a brief illness. Nancy accepted
Christ at an early age and in 1996, she joined New Testament House
of God under the teaching of Elder Robert L. Dass. While a member,
she was installed as Mother of the church. She loved her pastor, her
church and her church family. Nancy was very
devoted to her family. She loved spoiling them, age was never a
factor, if you were a part of her life, she spoiled you and you
couldn’t do anything about it. Granny, as she was
called by most people, had a quiet spirit but she loved to laugh and
joke with the kids. She will truly be missed in so many ways but she
will forever live through all the lives she touched. Her husband, Thomas
“June” Tyree, preceded her in death in 1988. Nancy leaves to
continue her legacy of love, loyalty and the true value of family,
her children. Thomas Michael, Richard, Karyn and Ronald. Twelve
grandchildren, Jennice, Laketta (Charles), Th’Mia, De Chara,
Jermaine, Domonique, Chanelle, Christian, Joale (Charles), Jessica,
Ronald and Justin. Four avowed grandchildren, Jonai, Kyleeshia,
Le’Myka, and Le’Davian. Great-grandchildren, Brittany, Janai, Jarell,
Shontese, Kameron, Charles, Kerra, Carlin, Deandra, Antoinette,
Reginald, Siddiquah, Jashaureah, Darius, Chamira, Janiya, Kylen,
Kamari, Kamara, Tiara and Sabrina. One sister, Elsie (Joe Billy)
Banks. Lifelong friend, Emma Biggins, special niece, Virgie Tyree
and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. One grandchild
preceded her in death, Ashley Marie.
