Jernel James Walker,
affectionately known as Jay, was born on May 12, 1982 in Cleveland,
Ohio to James and Gwendolyn Walker. Jernel, who was
educated in the East Cleveland School system, loved playing baseball
as a young boy. He loved to have fun, to hang out with his friends
and to simply enjoy life. He also loved shopping for today’s
fashions and was always getting himself a new outfit. His shoes
were always clean and he really cared about how he looked. Not only did he have
one mother, his sister became his mother and they were very close.
She always watched out for Jernel and did not want anyone to mess
with him. If you did, you would have to deal with Shanda. Jernel always had a
smile on his face and, if you said something he didn’t like, he
would just look at you with a little grin on his face. He would
never say a word, though, and was always respectful to his family.
When the family would have a cookout, he’d always be there. He
would sometimes park in his grandmother’s driveway - watching the
house while they were sleeping. When his mother
started her church, he was her first drummer. On the Sunday before
his passing, Jay visited the church and, giving his mother great
joy, gave his life back to the Lord saying that he “was tired.” On Saturday,
