 Clemmons, Margaret

Margaret Diana Clemmons was born on January 22, 1931 in Buffalo, NY to the union of Thomas and Doniella (nee Walls) Avent.  Margaret was educated in Buffalo and received her high school diploma there.  She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Lucius Clemmons while living in Buffalo.  The couple later moved to Cleveland, Ohio to be closer to family members.

After moving to Cleveland, Margaret gained employment with the Case Western Reserve Psychiatric Center.  In an effort to gain better employment opportunities, Margaret furthered her education at Cuyahoga Community College where she earned an Associates Degree in Social Work.  She later earned a Bachelors of Art Degree from Cleveland State University.  Her career at the Psychiatric Center included her advancement to Program Director and she was able to retire from there after thirty five years of service to the organization.

Margaret was a very outgoing, sociable and fun loving woman.  She enjoyed caring for her family as well as for others.  If you needed a place to stay, her arms and her home were always open - so much so that the family home was considered the “neighborhood house”.  She particularly enjoyed feeding everyone.  Her macaroni and cheese was awesome and she had become a master at stretching food for her large family!  Margaret also loved to crochet, to watch WWF wrestling and to read her sizeable collection of romance novels!

Margaret had accepted Christ into her life and on Tuesday February 2, 2010, Margaret went home to be with the Lord.  She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nyna Avent, Ann Grady, and Doniella Thomas;  three brothers, Thomas Avent, Raymond Avent, and Wilbur Avent; and one grandson, Lucius Bradley.

Those left to mourn and to cherish her memories include her children; Byron Clemmons, Doniella Clemmons, Cynthia Clemmons, Lucius Clemmons III, Barbara Gay (Von), Duane Clemmons (Tanya), Freda Moore, Frederick Clemmons  (Latylia) and Lorraine Clemmons; one brother, Michael Avent; grandchildren, Christopher Lynch, Lamont Clemmons, Arlyce Clemmons, Mia Clemmons, Duane H. Clemmons, Tiffany Clemmons, Denita Fountain, Joshua Clemmons, Tanisha Clemmons, Janice Clemmons, Deonna Clemmons, Duane E. Clemmons Jr., Jamie Moore, Keyanna Clemmons, Earnest Haggard II, Edward Haggard, and DeVante Clemmons; seventeen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; a few other relatives; and a lot of very special friends.
