 Derrick, Simon

Mr. Simon Derrick Jr., was born June 26, 1937; the third child of Simon Derrick, Sr. and Jeraldine Gray Derrick in Lake Mississippi.

Simon accepted God into his life at an early age by joining Sherman Hill United Methodist Church.  As a child he attended Sherman Hills Schools.

In 1965, Simon married Jessie Harris where they produced four magnificent and beautiful children; Jerry, Dennis, Virginia and Loretta.

Simon was a very dedicated father and nothing meant more to him than his family.  He was a true believer of the concept that “it takes a village to raise a child” and was a father figure to many nieces, nephews and neighborhood children.

Simon was a hard worker from hauling puck wood and laboring in the fields in Mississippi to 32 dedicated years of service at Huron Road Hospital.  He was a very intelligent man that loved the challenge of fixing things people though were no longer useful.  He would often find bikes and fix them to give them away to neighborhood children.

On Thursday, February 11, 2010, Simon spread his wings and took his heavenly flight to be with the Lord.  He was preceded in death by his mother Jeraldine Derrick and father Simon Derrick, Sr., sisters Kathryn Black and Myrtis Smith, brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Carolyn Derrick, son Dennis Ray Derrick and grand-daughter U.S. Army Specialist Jennifer Nicole James.

He leaves to cherish his memories; wife Lisa Jones, sisters, Sarah and Marvie Derrick of Indianaplois, IN and brother James (Nell) Derrick of Forest, Mississippi.  One son Jerry Derrick, three daughters; Pamela Fountain of Forest, Mississippi, Virginia (Steven) Journee and Loretta Derrick.  Six grandchildren; Tyrean (Teju) and Byrean Fountain of Forest, Mississippi, Justin Phelps, Brittni Journee, Denisha Derrick, Brijae Journee and Dennis Jr., along with four great grandchildren.  One special foster nephew J. C. Montez Nelson, best friend Larry King, along with a host of relatives and friends who will dearly miss him.
