
Barbara Jean Grimes was born April 10,
1948 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Vivian Eff and Charles Darden
Grimes (who preceded her in death) she was relocated to Cleveland
and raised by her parents Nathanial and Sally Hullum (her mother
Sally Hullum preceded her in death.
Barbara Jean attended Cleveland Public
Schools and graduated from East Tec High School. The late
Sally Hullum reared her in the fear and admonition of the Lord and
she grew up in the East 10rth Street Church of God in Christ.
Before her failing health, she was a member of the Perry
Inspirational Choir and sand with her sisters Murlee and Sylvia
Cathedral COGIC formerly the East 105th Street COGIC.
At the age of 13 Barbara met the love of
her life Levi Eddie Harris and in 1966 out of their union their
first daughter was born and in 1969 their second daughter was born,
and in 1978 a son was born whom she cherished.
Barbara loved to help and take care of
others and in 1969 she ventured into Case Western University's
School of Nursing and in 1973 received her degree as a registered
nurse. Barbara's hobbies were singing, dancing and helping
others rebuild their homes. She opened her heart and home to
so many over her lifetime. She was always lending a concerned
ear or warm meal and bed to anyone down and out. Barbara gave
so much of herself.
On Sunday June 1, 2008 Barbara closed
her eyes and accepted her heavenly wings as God called her home.
She leaves to cherish her memory three
children, daughters Sherdina Grimes; Chole'e Dailey (Wyatt); son
Nakia Jackson. She leaves also to mourn 11 brothers and
sisters: Earline (deceased), Murleen, Robert, Elain (Frank),
Nathanial Jr. (Edith), Richard, Larry (Kelly), Charles (Linda),
Eddie, T.J. and her baby sister Sylvia (Harrison). She also
leaves to mourn lifelong love Eddie Harris, 14 grandchildren:
Taryne Greer (Irvin), Stanford Simmons, Alexia Simmons, Kiara Grimes
(deceased), Maurice Grimes (deceased), Tiera Grimes, Mario Grimes,
Octavia Hicks, Wyatt Dailey Jr., Christopher Hicks, Justin Hicks,
Kanisha Jackson, Tony Dailey, and Shanzy Jackson; 4
great-grandchildren, Tavon Grimes, Irvin Greer, Nivri Greer, and
Shamari Payne: 3 aunts, Juanita, Sugar, and Honey; a
lifelong friend Delores, Bernice, Frances, Loretta and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
