Mary
Lue Gibbons was born on July 25, 1940 to Willie and Pensecola
Gibbons in Wadley, Georgia. She was the fourth oldest of eight
children. Mary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at
Paris Grove Baptist Church of Louisville, Georgia.
Mary moved to Cleveland, Ohio and was joined in holy matrimony to
Carlye James Sr. in 1958. Their union was blessed with five
children - Carlye Jr., Robert, Evelyn, Mary and Darrell.
Mary was known as “Mom”, “Granny”, “Granma” and Mary to many. When
you needed help and many people turned you away, she was always
there with a helping hand. She was often there to comfort, support,
listen and advise. She will truly be missed.
On Sunday June 15, 2008, Father’s Day, Mary was called home to be
with our Lord. Those that have preceded her in death include her
husband, Carlye James, Sr.; her parents, Willie and Pensecola
Gibbons; her two brothers, Willie and Nathaniel; and her
son-in-law, Samuel Rouse.
Despite our sadness, we understand that she lives on in all of us.
As a caring mother to Carlye (Katy) Jr., Robert (Sylvia), Evelyn
(Kevin), Mary Rouse and Darrell, all of Cleveland, Ohio; as a
loving sister to Shirley Williams of Brooklyn, New York, Johnny
(Amanda), Larry (Colleen) of Ocala, Florida, Fred (Doris) and Lillie
Branch of Cleveland, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren and fourteen
great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving
relatives, and friends.
