
Pinell
May Sr. was born on September 24, 1930 in Ozan, Arkansas to the
union of Alaska and Florida (nee White) May. During his youth,
Pinell accepted Christ into his life. In addition, he moved to
Detroit, Michigan where he attended Northwestern High School.
On March
1, 1948, Pinell entered the U. S. Army and served during the Korean
Conflict. After receiving an Honorable Discharge on April 15, 1952
from military duty, Pinell returned to Detroit, Michigan where he
gained employment with Chrysler Corporation. In 1957, he relocated
to Cleveland, Ohio and later retired from Chrysler after 30 years of
service. Pinell later gained part-time employment as a Baliff with
Cuyahoga County where he worked for 15 years.
“Slim”
as Pinell was affectionately known, had joined the Prince Hall
Masons. He enjoyed listening to Blues and Gospel music, making
homemade sausage and souse meat, as well as simply hanging out with
his “Dogg” – Mr. Henry.
On
Sunday, April 11, 2010, Pinell departed this life. He is preceded
in death by his parents; one son, Pinell May Jr.; one sister,
Caledonia Johnson; as well as one brother, Henry Joiner.
Pinell
leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Shirley May; sons,
Robin May and Dwain (Luanne) May; one daughter, Gwendolyn may; two
sisters, Ora Lee (Wilbur) Crayton and Sandra (Elisha) Hogans; one
sister-in-law, Shirley Joiner; one grandson, Adonis; one
granddaughter, Crystal; three step granddaughters, Frankie, Jennifer
and Tara; one great- grandson, William; two great-granddaughters,
Ashley and Angel; as well as a host of other loving relatives and
friends.
