Mary
Helen, affectionately known as “Sue”, was born on July 11, 1951 in
Birmingham, Alabama to the union of Jim and Helen Young. She moved
with her family to Cleveland in 1957 where she attended Cleveland
Public Schools and graduated from John Adams in 1970. That same
year, she started working at Ohio Bell and retired from there after
thirty years of service.
In 1972, Sue was
joined in Holy Matrimony to Charles Curtis Queen. To their union,
three children were born - Charles III and twin girls Courtney and
Chloe.
If you knew Sue, you
knew these three things: she loved her family, she loved her
friends and she was a die hard sports fan! She lived in Orange
Village and was outstanding in the community. She coached her
children’s sports teams throughout the years, she served on PTA
boards and athletic boards, and she volunteered her time on Sundays
for “open gym” where kids came to play basketball. She cooked
dinners for her children’s basketball and football teams and brought
snacks to every track meet. She would get to the school early on
game days to decorate the senior lockers. Sue went above and beyond
in her duties as a mother and was described by many as a “second
mother.” She loved all Cleveland sports teams, but, the Cleveland
Browns were her favorite! She spent hours arguing back and forth
over the telephone with her cousins in Pittsburgh about the
Cleveland Browns!
On Thursday, February
4, 2010, Sue departed this life and will be truly missed because she
was a truly loved person by all. She is preceded in death by her
parents, by her brother Oscar “Bear” Young, as well as by her
sister, Betty Lee Longmire.
Those left to mourn
and to cherish her memory include her husband Charles; son, “Chaz”
Curtis Queen; daughters, Courtney Callie Queen and Chloe Carmella
Queen; one grandchild, Carter Joseph Goodwin; seven siblings, Earl
(Margaret) Jackson, Jim “Hooks” (Marie) Young, Gloria “Pepper”
Young, Willie “Iceman” (Pam) Young, and Marvin “Moochie” Young;
sisters-in-law, Sirita Queen and Sarilyn Young; two aunts, Lennie
McCrommon of Pittsburgh, PA and Pearlie Spencer of Birmingham, AL;
as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends.
