 Thomason, Ozzie

OZZIE THOMASON was born February 4, 1930, to the late King Solomon and Rosa (Mims) Thomason in Port Huron, Michigan.  He was the sixth son born to this family of twelve.  On February 6, 2010, Ozzie was called home to be with the Lord.  He was preceded in death by five brothers:  James, Nathaniel, Herbert, Lee, Joel, and King Thomason, Jr.; four sisters:  Willie Mae, Alberta, Beulah, and Ulah Jean; one son, John E. Moncrief; and one grandson, Anthony Lamont Moncrief.

With Christ being the Head and Foundation of the Thomason Family, it was no surprise that Ozzie accepted Christ at an early age.  Every night before he went to bed, Ozzie would read his Bible and proudly get on his knees to pray.  Ozzie had a great love for all music.  Those who knew him best knew him for being able to display his gift of reaching a deep strong bass note at any given time.

Ozzie served his country in the Korean War and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force on February 21, 1956.

Ozzie married Ethel Lee Moncrief on May 7, 1966, in Port Huron, Michigan.

Due to health problems, Ozzie retired from Mueller Brass Co. after 30 years of service.  As his health continued to worsen, Ozzie moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to be with family so they could care for him.

Once Ozzie moved to Cleveland, he recommitted himself to God and found a fellowship amongst his brethren that he had never known.  Ozzie became a member of the blessed Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served and joined the Male Chorus.  Ozzie found his sense of purpose while singing and traveling with the Male Chorus.  Ozzie would only miss a service or rehearsal if he was ill or in the hospital.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories of him, his wife, Ethel L. Thomason (Cleveland, Ohio), four sons:  Louis Moncrief (Port Huron, Michigan), Joe Moncrief (Ypsilanti, Michigan), James Moncrief (Romulus, Michigan), Timothy Thomason (Detroit, Michigan); four daughters:  Eliza Scott, Claudette “Kitty” Blackmon, Elona Thomason (Cleveland, Ohio), Patsy Stallworth (Newark, Ohio); two brothers:  Elder Alfred Thomason (Detroit, Michigan) and Isaiah Thomason (Sacramento, CA); three grandsons:  Laurence Thomason (Cleveland, Ohio), Derrick and Alonzo Thomason (Port Huron, Michigan); eight granddaughters:  Lagina Moncrief (Texas), Lisa Moncrief (North Carolina), Lynette Faulkner (Port Huron, Michigan), Michelle and Ashley Moncrief (Ypsilanti, Michigan), Electra Blackmon (Cleveland, Ohio); Danielle Moncrief (Arizona), Dominique Moncrief (Florida); six great-grandchildren:  Anthony Mays and Marquez Williams (Cleveland, Ohio), Michael and Jovan Moncrief (North Carolina), Nia and Darius Faulkner (Port Huron, Michigan), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
