Ester Mae Strawther Farrow, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and devoted sister by her side on May 8, 2025. Ester was born on February 17, 1950, in St. Albans, West Virginia to the late Willie H. Strawther and the late Lorenthia Bush Strawther Hicks. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Reginia Strawther Lipscomb, nephew Jerry Strawther Muhammad, and brother Ronald Idris Chandler. Ester grew up in Charleston, WV, was educated in Kanawha County, attending Riverview Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and graduating from Charleston High School in 1967.
After graduation, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to work at Western Union as a telegraph operator for 18 years and to attend Eve Brown Modeling School. She loved modeling all over Ohio and Michigan. Although she earned an Associate Degree at Cleveland Community College, her love for children led her to choose driving a school bus, working for the Cleveland Board of Education, retiring after 25 years of service. She especially enjoyed driving the special needs bus. Sharing her faith in God with all the children and parents.
Ester married Andrew J. Farrow on August 12, 1988. She adored and spoiled their dog, Ninja Farrow, for 16 years. Ester and Andrew loved to travel, entertain family at their home and try keeping up with 4 nephews - Michael, Jerry, Donald and Maurice; whom she lovingly called her sons.
Ester loved her Cleveland "Aunt Carrie" branch of the Bush family. She was "big sister" to Hewlett "Shuba", Charlene, Reuben "BaBruh", Tawaniki "Tiny" & Joyce. She loves all their children, with a special place in her heart for Rashann, visiting/taking (or sending) him Kim's wings on Wednesdays.
Ester gave her life to the Lord as a teenager and never forgot her roots in The Glorious Church of God in Christ in the Holla. Even on her job she and co-worker Rev. Peter Jackson met every Wednesday with the drivers in the lunchroom to have prayer. After 7 years, Rev. Jackson retired and challenged "Ester Mae, I want you to keep it going," which she did until her retirement. She said: "Before we prayed, we would join hands and quote, "This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24" She attend good Shepherd Baptist Church, Cleveland OH.
She leaves to cherish her memory and keep the torch lit: Husband, Andew J. Farrow, sister, Janet Strawther Lawson (Tom), nephews Michael Lipscomb, Donald Megginson, Jr. and Maurice Megginson (Lynna), Kathy Lawson, great-nephews, Emari, Sharrieff, Maurice II, great-nieces, Niya, Kiara, Naomi, Amyah and Tamia.
Her favorite scripture is St. John 3:16 because she found strength in knowing that she can substitute "the world" with "Ester". For God so loved "Ester Farrow" that He gave His only begotten Son, that "if Ester" believeth on Him "she" would not perish but shall have everlasting life."
