Solomon Moses Smith, Sr. 98, departed this life on Friday, December 4, 2020. Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020; Wake 9:30 am and Funeral 10:00 am at the Thomas G. Smith Funeral Home, 14601 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH. 44110. Interment will be immediately following the service at Cleveland Memorial Gardens, 4324 Green Road, Highland Hills, OH 44128. Solomon Moses Smith Sr, was born December 13, 1921, in Hull, Georgia to the late Corinne Huff-Smith and Amos Smith Sr. He received his education in Georgia.
Solomon served in the Army from November 11, 1942 through January 28, 1946 and was honorably discharged. During his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medals, and World War II Victory Medals.
Solomon met and fell in love with his childhood sweetheart Elmer Louise Thrasher. They married on February 4, 1949. Four children were born from this union. Solomon worked for the Chrysler Twinsburg Stamping Plant for 36 years, was an extremely hard worker, and retired as a Foreman. In his retirement, he still aided the community by acting as a School Crossing Guard. He also enjoyed working in the yard, waxing his cars, sitting on the porch with the love of his life and visiting nearby family.
Solomon professed his love for Christ at an early age. After arriving in Cleveland in the late 1950s, he joined Zion Hill Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Deacon Board for many years before joining Holy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in September 1992. He was a man of faith, strength, and Godliness. Solomon received his wings on December 4, 2020. Solomon will be greatly missed and remembered for his kind heart, quiet demeanor and dedication to his family. Preceding him in death were his brothers Curtis and Amos Jr., his sister Eula and son Solomon Jr.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of 71 years Elmer Smith and to carry on his legacy -Three Children: Michael Smith (Shirley), Sheryl Smith, Darryl Smith (Delise). Five Grandchildren: Arianne Morrow (Gregory Sr.), Terrence Brown (Waquisha), Ermando Francis (Camille) Adrian Walker, Shaierra Matthews. Seven Great-Grandchildren: Shaiyana, Marcel, Shane, Gregory Jr., Trevion, Chloe, and Mikie. Four Sisters: Emma, Ella, Oretha and Rosa and Two Brothers: Walter and Ben. Brother/Sister in laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
